The Weekend Happenings

This weekend we partied southern style! I went out and saw my aunt in Scotland Neck, NC and went on a trail ride. I arrived on thursday evening after my drive down to Oak Island to deliver a painting and from there drove to Scotland Neck. It was all of about an 8 hour trip, but it was a lot of fun with my sissy.

Thursday night, Calzones were just awesome with a greek salad and a nice Kendell Jackson Meritage (Red blend, wonderful if you can find it). Friday, we rode down to the trail ride site and hung out with a few friends and that evening, took a ride on the deuce and half (Bud Light was my friend…lol) The lightning bugs must have been in the thousands, I have never seen so many sparkle in the trees, just awesome. Saturday, we rode our horses. I rode Buckwheat and he was actually decent and didn’t throw me, so I felt like the day was successful from the beginning. Wee had hotdogs for lunch and saw a menagerie of different horses. We trailered up around twelve (it was 95 degrees…steamy) and headed off to the pool to get cool off.

That evening, we went to the trail site and had BBQ chicken, boiled potatoes, cole slaw, brunswick stew and a roll…damn good meal if I could say so myself. We brought the cooler and camped out towards the band and let me tell you, they were definitely hittin’ on something there because we just had to get out of our chairs and shake it down. That evening after the party simmered down, we took another ride on the deuce and a half to finish a great night.

It is so nice when you can hang out with your family and get back to your roots. I have met some really awesome people this weekend and can’t wait for next years ride.
